Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, and Conservation Colorado announced today their endorsements of Senator Michael Bennet for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Colorado.
“Coloradans have an environmental leader in Michael Bennet. Michael is addressing the urgent threat posed by climate change and leading the transition to a clean energy economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “League of Conservation Voters Action Fund endorses Michael Bennet for U.S. Senate.”
“Unprecedented drought and a summer of wildfires ahead remind all Coloradans that we need a climate and conservation champion in the U.S. Senate,” said Kelly Nordini, executive director of Conservation Colorado. “That’s why we are thrilled to award our first-ever federal endorsement to Senator Michael Bennet in his campaign for re-election. We look forward to working with Senator Bennet for years to come to support Colorado’s climate, air, water, and communities.”
“Skiiers, anglers, hikers, sportsmen and women, farmers and ranchers, and all Colorado families feel the effects of climate change in the form of worsening wildfires, shorter ski seasons and intensified drought,” said Senator Michael Bennet. “I appreciate League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and Conservation Colorado supporting my campaign and working together to combat climate change and protect Colorado for future generations.”
Michael Bennet has represented Colorado in the U.S. Senate since 2009. He previously served as the superintendent of Denver Public Schools, chief of staff to then-Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. In the 116th Congress, he served as the top Democrat on the Finance Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure and of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry and Natural Resources, as well as a member of the Senate Democrats’ Special Committee on the Climate Crisis. As a senator, he has fought for policies to address climate change and the Trump administration’s efforts to roll back progress, including helping lead the calls for former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation. He has introduced legislation to rescind Trump’s anti-climate executive orders; standardize how the government evaluates the costs of climate change; to promote clean energy, energy efficiency and carbon capture and storage; and to protect our public lands including the Arctic Refuge. He also cosponsored the Rural Wind Energy Modernization and Extension Act and the Clean Schoolbus Act. This February, Senator Bennet announced a framework of Western climate resilience priorities crafted collaboratively with Colorado leaders. The framework focuses on strong local economies, healthy landscapes, and science-based climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
