Washington, D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today — on the United Nations’ World Earth Day and only days after the two-year anniversary of President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement — the endorsement of 16 Environmental Majority Makers in battleground districts. Representatives Sean Casten (IL-06), Gil Cisneros (CA-39), Jason Crow (CO-06), Joe Cunningham (SC-01), Sharice Davids (KS-03), Antonio Delgado (NY-19), Katie Hill (CA-25), Andy Kim (NJ-03), Mike Levin (CA-49), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), Chris Pappas (NH-01), Katie Porter (CA-45), Harley Rouda (CA-48), Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02) and Susan Wild (PA-07) comprise the first round of endorsements for the Environmental Majority Makers program, an effort by LCV Action Fund to defend the pro-environment majority in the 2020 election cycle.
“LCV Action Fund is excited to provide early support to these new members of Congress who have prioritized the environment and the health of their constituents and supported climate action since day one in the House of Representatives,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Their leadership has been critical in securing the passage of the historic Climate Action Now Act and the largest public lands package in nearly a decade, and shining a spotlight on public health crises like PFAS pollution. In order to make progress on climate in the next Congress, it is essential that we re-elect these first-term members who have made our environment and our future a top priority.”
In 2018, voters elected a new House majority that promised to hold the Trump Administration accountable for dangerous environmental rollbacks and a failure to act on the climate crisis. In just the first few months of this Congress, the new majority has held dozens of congressional hearings on the climate crisis; passed the first pro-climate action legislation through the House and the largest public lands bill in a decade; and introduced legislation to protect our coasts, the Arctic Refuge and our national monuments, address PFAS contamination, and more. Every one of these endorsed Environmental Majority Makers co-sponsored H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, to honor our global commitments to climate action. They are helping lead the charge for climate solutions and environmental safeguards in Congress and all represent battleground districts. LCV Action Fund is committed to defending and growing the pro-environment majority in the House and helping to elect a pro-environment Senate and a climate champion to the White House and will be endorsing additional Environmental Majority Makers in the months to come.
