WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Bruce Braley for U.S. Senate from Iowa. Braley has advocated tirelessly for common sense policies that create jobs in renewable energy and protect our lands and waterways.
“Bruce Braley is committed to making America a leader in renewable energy jobs and technological innovations,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He is an advocate for common sense solutions that protect our environment and put the people of Iowa first, and LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse him.”
“For generations, Iowans who have worked the land on farms and in fields have known the economic importance of conservation and land stewardship,” said Braley. “Now, the next generation of Iowans are creating jobs and economic growth through investment in renewable energy. I’m running for Senate to fight for policies that expand renewable energy jobs and protect Iowa’s rivers, lakes, and hunting lands because these are critical to Iowa’s economy and Iowans’ way of life. That’s why I’m honored to have the LCV Action Fund’s endorsement.”
Braley has been a staunch proponent of investing in America’s energy future while working to end our dependence on foreign oil. He has advocated for clean energy sources like wind and solar, including introducing legislation to extend the wind energy production tax credit. He has also supported efforts to develop new types of transportation fuels and electric vehicles that reduce our use of foreign oil. The first bill Braley introduced and passed into law created a grant program to encourage community colleges to offer renewable energy workforce training programs.
He is also committed to preserving Iowa’s long and proud outdoor heritage. Braley has voted against bills that would lead to the pollution and destruction of our waterways, which we depend on for drinking, swimming and fishing. He has also stood up to Big Oil by voting against legislation that prioritizes drilling on public lands over activities such as hunting, fishing and hiking.
His voting record has earned Braley an 89% on LCV’s 2013 National Environmental Scorecard and a lifetime score of 88%. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
