LCV Action Fund Endorses Congressman Mike Honda for Re-Election

Mar 6, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Mike Honda for re-election to Congress (CA-17). Representative Honda has spent over a decade in Congress working tirelessly to protect the environment and public health.

“For more than a decade, Congressman Mike Honda has been a champion for clean air and water, and fighting to protect our environment for future generations,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He is a true environmental leader who consistently stands up to Big Oil and other corporate polluters, and LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Mike Honda for re-election.”

“Representative Mike Honda is a proven leader who has never stopped fighting for California and our environment,” said Sarah Rose, CEO of the California League of Conservation Voters. “He has spearheaded initiatives to make our country more energy efficient and has worked hard to find new opportunities to invest in green technologies.”

“I’m honored to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in my re-election campaign,” said Honda. “As a former high school science teacher, I know the importance of preserving our environment, and l will continue fighting to protect it.”

A member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and the Safe Climate Caucus, Honda is committed to finding common sense solutions to combating climate change, and moving America towards a clean energy economy by increasing our investment in renewable energy.  He has also stood up to corporate polluters by opposing the harmful practices of unregulated fracking, fighting against the approval of the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, and supporting ending taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil.

Congressman Honda has fought hard to protect our public lands and wildlife. He has also continuously supported the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ability to protect the air we breathe and the water we drink, including placing limits on the amount of dangerous carbon pollution power plants can spew into our air.

His voting record has earned Honda an impressive 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
