LCV Action Fund Endorses Congressman Pete Gallego for Re-Election

Sep 17, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Pete Gallego for re-election to Congress (TX-23). Congressman Gallego supports bipartisan solutions that will expand our clean energy economy and protect our iconic landscapes.

“Congressman Pete Gallego supports smart conservation policies that will preserve our natural treasures for generations to come,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski, “He is also working to grow our clean energy industries like wind and solar, which will make America energy independent and create jobs right here at home.”

Pete Gallego works with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to build consensus on initiatives that are important to his district,” said David Weinberg, Executive Director for the Texas League of Conservation Voters.  “He has also demonstrated his devotion to the 23rd district by securing funding for local efforts to educate families on the dangers posed by exposure to pesticides, mercury and lead; and to promote recycling and rainwater harvesting.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Congressman Pete Gallego. “For far too long, Texas has failed to strike the right balance between a strong economy and the need to be preserve our precious natural resources. I look forward to continuing to work with the League to find that balance.”

Congressman Gallego is committed to preserving our public lands for future generations. He recognizes the economic, scenic and historical impact these precious landscapes have on our communities, which is why he advocates for the continued protection of Big Bend National Park and co-sponsored legislation to expand the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Congressman Gallego has also opposed legislation that prevents new parks from being created by undermining the President’s authority to designate new National Monuments.

Growing America’s clean energy economy through commonsense policies is important to Congressman Gallego. He’s co-sponsored bills that would promote clean energy development, provide tax incentives for small businesses and spur job growth in Texas and across the country. Congressman Gallego has also voted against harmful cuts to funding for clean energy and energy efficiency industries.

Congressman Gallego also recently helped local partners in his district acquire federal grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assist in water management efforts and to educate families on the dangers posed by exposure to pesticides, mercury, and lead.

In 2012, LCV developed the Flat Earth Five program, which succeeded in defeating four climate change-denying incumbents in the House of Representatives. Pete Gallego, who was endorsed by LCVAF, unseated former Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco, one of the Flat Earth Five members. Congressman Gallego has proven himself an ally in Congress, and someone whose leadership was much needed in Texas’s 23rd district.

Pete Gallego is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
