LCV Action Fund Endorses Don Beyer for Congress

Oct 29, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Don Beyer for Congress (VA-8). Beyer advocates for the protection of our environment by supporting strong action to tackle climate disruption and grow our clean energy economy.

“Don Beyer will be a strong ally in the U.S. House of Representatives as he works to protect the environment for our children and our grandchildren to enjoy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He recognizes that climate change is the biggest challenge of our generation, which is why he will fight to hold polluters accountable and reduce our carbon emissions.”

“Don Beyer has always been an advocate for the state of Virginia, and he will continue to fight for Virginians and our environment in Congress,” said Michael Town, Executive Director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters. “He will work hard to create good paying Virginia jobs by expanding our clean energy industries and investing in energy efficient technologies.”

“The League of Conservation Voters works tirelessly and intelligently on behalf of critical environmental issues,” said Beyer.  “The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund endorsement is a great boost to my campaign as we head into GOTV weekend.”

Beyer is making climate disruption a top priority on the campaign trail, and if elected to Congress, he will carry out his call to action by working to reduce our carbon emissions while growing our clean energy and energy efficiency industries. He will stand up to Big Oil and corporate polluters by supporting the EPA’s Clean Power Plan and striving to eliminate oil and gas subsidies.

A member of former-Governor Tim Kaine’s Commission on Climate Change and Chair of its Workgroup on Transportation and Land Use, Beyer spearheaded the successful legislative effort to have a Virginia Appalachian Trial license plate, which helps to fund trail management and hiker outreach. Additionally, Beyer served as the ambassador to Switzerland where he authorized this U.S. embassy to undergo the first carbon footprint assessment, and then proceeded to reduce its carbon emissions by 40 percent.

Don Beyer is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
