LCV Action Fund Endorses Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate

Aug 20, 2026

Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will fight to lower energy costs, build a clean energy economy, protect our communities’ air and water, and strengthen our democracy for all, announced its endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

“Dr. Abdul El-Sayed has dedicated his career to protecting the health and safety of communities, addressing environmental injustice, and holding Big Polluters accountable. He is the candidate Michiganders need in the Senate,” said LCV Action Fund Vice President of Federal Policy Matthew Davis. “The future of our climate and our rights are increasingly at stake as Senate Republicans continue to help Trump’s corrupt agenda, raising costs for families and lining the pockets of corporate and fossil fuel billionaires. LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Dr. El-Sayed and support his campaign to fight for people, the planet, and our fundamental rights.”

“In the United States Senate, I’m going to fight to keep Michigan’s environment clean and safe for generations to come—including protecting our Great Lakes from polluters,” said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. “I’ve spent my career as a public health official standing up to corporate polluters. I’m honored to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund alongside me in this fight and I look forward to working in the Senate to protect our air, water, and natural resources together.”

About Dr. Abdul El-Sayed
During his career, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed has fought to protect Michigan communities and rebuild a government agency to make it more effective. He rebuilt Detroit’s Health Department after bankruptcy. Then he restructured Wayne County’s Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services, serving 1.8 million Michiganders in the state’s largest and most diverse county. As a public servant, El-Sayed secured free glasses for kids who needed them, removed lead from Detroit’s elementary schools, took on Michigan’s biggest polluters, and made life-saving Narcan universally accessible. He also spearheaded a program that will cancel up to $700 million in medical debt for 300,000 Michiganders over 2 years. His work earned him recognition as “Public Official of the Year” by the Michigan LCV and a spot on Crain’s Detroit Business 40 Under 40 list. In 2020, he was selected to serve on President Biden’s Unity Task Force for Healthcare, helping craft policies that are lowering prescription drug prices today.
