Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Dr. Al Gross for election to the U.S. Senate from Alaska.

“Alaskans deserve a Senator who believes in science and understands the consequences of inaction on the climate crisis, especially in a state like Alaska on the frontline of rising temperatures and sea levels,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support Dr. Al Gross because we know he will put Alaskans first above corporate interests and work to ensure we have just and equitable climate solutions that work for all Alaskan communities.”

“The Alaska Center is happy to see that LCV Action Fund has joined us in endorsing Dr. Gross,” said Polly Carr, Executive Director of The Alaska Center. “Alaskans are calling clearly for a stronger voice for Alaska in DC: one that will stand for all Alaskans, our ways of life, and a just transition from an extractive economy toward a sustainable future.”

“I am thrilled to get the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Dr. Al Gross. “As a lifelong Alaskan who started commercial fishing at the age of 14, I have seen first hand how climate change has ravaged my state. And while it is true that at the moment Alaska is still heavily dependent on oil and gas, we need to urgently address the threat posed by a warming planet. In the Senate, I look forward to working to double down on our investment in renewable energy, transition toward the clean economy of the 21st century, and help those that have been displaced by the climate crisis.”

Dr. Al Gross is a lifelong Alaskan, commercial fisherman, and orthopedic surgeon. He received his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and his M.D. from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He also received a M.P.H. from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and completed the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. Gross served as the President of the Bartlett Regional Hospital Medical Staff before founding and serving as President of the Juneau Bone and Joint Center. Dr. Gross is committed to moving Alaska and the United States towards renewable, green energy. He is running a carbon-neutral campaign — the first in the history of the state — and has rightfully called out climate change as a serious problem that is already impacting Alaska. He is holding Senator Dan Sullivan accountable for denying the severity of the problem. Gross has also been outspoken against the proposed Pebble Mine that would threaten Bristol Bay.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
