Washington, D.C. – One day after the expiration of our nation’s best parks program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund announced its endorsements of Nanette Diaz Barragán for Congress in California’s 44th District, Pramila Jayapal for Congress in Washington’s 7th District and A. Donald McEachin for Congress in Virginia’s 4th District.
“Representatives Barragán, Jayapal and McEachin are helping lead the fight in Congress for the communities most at risk from the dangerous impacts of climate change and toxic pollution,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “Their fierce advocacy for climate justice in the face of the Trump administration’s pro-polluter agenda has been a model of resistance. We need their leadership now more than ever and look forward to working with them and United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force for years to come.”
“I am honored once again to have the support of LCV Action Fund — a group that works tirelessly to ensure the air we breathe and water we drink is clean,” said Nanette Barragán. “While the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress work to advance the fossil fuel industry’s agenda, we must fight together for clean air, clean water, and environmental justice. Thank you to LCV Action Fund and to my United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force co-founders Representatives Jayapal and McEachin for your leadership and dedication.”
“I am proud to receive the endorsement of LCV Action Fund,” said Pramila Jayapal. “At a time when Republican leadership in Congress is failing to take necessary climate action and allowing important programs like LWCF to expire, we must work together to stand up for climate justice and to ensure that everyone has access to our treasured public lands. The United For Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force will continue to work with LCV to ensure that vulnerable communities receive the resources and support they need for a healthy and sustainable future.”
“I want to thank LCV Action Fund for this endorsement for my co-chairs and me,” said Donald McEachin. “I am proud of the attention and efforts we have brought to the vexing issue of environmental justice. Too little is appreciated about how communities of color, low income people and rural areas suffer disproportionately from environmental ills. Whether it is a lack of clean drinking water, increased air pollution leading to respiratory ailments or toxic waste sites and landfills in proximity to these communities, environmental inequities abound and must be addressed. I will continue to fight for a cleaner and healthier earth and for those most vulnerable and least able to protect themselves.“
Representatives Barragán, Jayapal and McEachin co-founded the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force in May, 2017 to address the disproportionate impact of climate change and pollution on communities of color, low income families, and other marginalized groups. At a time when the Trump administration has unfailingly prioritized polluter profits over our health and safety, the task force has given voice to the need for environmental protections and climate action that is grounded in equity and justice for all communities. They have called for a fully funded Environmental Protection Agency, highlighted how the clean car standards rollback will disproportionately impact communities of color, and denounced Secretary Ryan Zinke’s dismissal of the need for racial diversity in the Department of Interior.
About LCV Action Fund

Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 74 U.S. senators and 331 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
