Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Gina Ortiz Jones for Congress in Texas’ 23rd district.

“We are thrilled to endorse Gina Ortiz Jones for Congress because we know she will fight for clean air and water for every Texan,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a veteran, she understands the national security threat posed by the climate crisis and is committed to smart climate solutions and investing in Texas’ clean energy economy.”

“I’m honored to have earned LCV Action Fund’s endorsement,” said Gina Ortiz Jones. “From public health, to national security, to our country’s economic competitiveness, strong environmental protections are key to each of those. In Congress, I will always fight for Texans’ access to clean water and clean air, and for the protection of our public lands, like Big Bend.”

Gina Ortiz Jones was raised in San Antonio, Texas. She received a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship and graduated from Boston University, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After graduation, she joined the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence officer and was deployed to Iraq where she served in active duty for three years. She later worked as an intelligence analyst for U.S. Africa Command in Germany and then the Defense Intelligence Agency, specializing in Latin America. As a national security professional, Gina Ortiz Jones has first-hand knowledge of the national security challenges caused and exacerbated by climate change, which is why she will champion policies to reduce carbon pollution and improve air and water quality for all in Congress.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect leaders who stand up for a clean, healthy environment and to defeat anti-environment candidates who oppose climate action. Since the 1990 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 90 U.S. Senators and 450 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections.
