Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Gina Ortiz Jones for Congress in Texas’ 23rd District.

“Gina Ortiz Jones has an admirable record of service to our country. As a veteran, she understands the national security, economic, and public health threats posed by climate change,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She has seen the devastating impact of air pollution in Texas, where kids and communities disproportionately suffer from asthma. In Congress, she will stand up for every Texan’s right to clean air and clean water, and we are proud to endorse her campaign.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the LCV Action Fund,” said Gina Ortiz Jones. “From advocating for clean air for our children to breathe, to ensuring public lands such as Big Bend stay protected, I will champion sound environmental policies.”

Gina Ortiz Jones was raised in San Antonio, Texas. She received a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship and graduated from Boston University, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After graduation, she joined the Air Force as an intelligence officer and was deployed to Iraq where she served in active duty for three years. She later worked as an intelligence analyst for U.S. Africa Command in Germany and then the Defense Intelligence Agency, specializing in Latin America. As a national security professional, Gina Ortiz Jones has first-hand knowledge of the national security challenges caused and exacerbated by climate change, which is why she will champion policies to reduce carbon pollution and improve air and water quality for all in Congress.
