Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Jaime Harrison for election to the U.S. Senate in South Carolina.

“Jaime Harrison has been an unapologetic champion for environmental issues on the campaign trail,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “In the Senate we know that he will stand up to Big Oil and fight to ban offshore drilling and ensure that all South Carolinians have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe.”

“I am honored to receive this endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, and I look forward to working together to fight for our environment and our economy,” Jaime Harrison said. “Growing up in South Carolina, I remember when 1,000 year storms happened once in a lifetime instead of once a year. There’s too much at stake for our elected officials to stand by only to play Washington political games. As Senator, I will pursue reforms relentlessly to protect not only our environment, clean water and clean air but also our small businesses, local economies and infrastructure from the catastrophic effects of oil drilling and climate change.”

A South Carolina native, Harrison graduated from Yale and spent the following year teaching at his former high school in Orangeburg. In 1999, Harrison became the COO of College Summit, an educational non-profit before going to law school in Washington, DC. Harrison worked for House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and then went on to be the executive director of the House Democratic Caucus and the vice chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party. When he took over as the state party chair in 2013, he was the first African American to hold the position.
