WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Jerry Cannon for Congress (MI-1). Cannon will work to make America energy independent, and will support efforts to protect Michigan’s Great Lakes.
“Jerry Cannon knows just how important America’s energy security is to our national interest, and once elected, he will work hard to create clean energy jobs that reduce our reliance on foreign oil,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “As a former marine and member of the Michigan Army National Guard, he served his county for nearly 40 years, and in Congress, will continue his unwavering fight for the American people.”
“Jerry Cannon will fight for the people of Michigan, and work hard to protect and restore the Great Lakes,” said Lisa Wozniak, Executive Director for the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. “He will support solutions that safeguard our water, and create clean energy manufacturing jobs right here in Michigan.”
“We need to protect Northern Michigan’s economic livelihood including our freshwater sources and environment while expanding our clean energy economy,” said Jerry Cannon. “I will stand up for our state and national interests, including making America energy independent, and protecting the Great Lakes from polluters and the threat of Asian carp. I am pleased to have the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund support my campaign.”
Cannon recognizes that the Great Lakes are critical to Michigan’s economic wellbeing, which is why he will work to combat the grave threat posed to the lakes by invasive species like the Asian carp, and he will oppose any efforts to cut funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. He also objects to drilling in the Great Lakes, a strong stance against Big Oil.
As a veteran, Cannon appreciates the need for American energy independence and vows to grow our clean energy economy. He supports the expansion of our wind and solar industries, which will create good paying jobs and decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
Jerry Cannon will be featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
