Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Kathy Manning for Congress in North Carolina’s 13th District.
“Kathy Manning knows that a healthy environment is key to economic growth,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “In Congress, she will support North Carolina’s continued leadership in renewable energy and fight to make sure that every family in North Carolina has clean air to breath and clean water to drink. We are proud to support her campaign for Congress.”
“Kathy Manning is a proven leader and trusted environmental ally,” said North Carolina League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Carrie Clark. “She knows that there is nothing more important than the health and wellbeing of North Carolina’s families, and we look forward to working with her in Congress to ensure a cleaner and healthier North Carolina for generations to come.”
“A strong economy and a healthy environment go hand in hand,” said Kathy Manning. “Without clean water to drink and clean air to breathe, we can’t expect our families to thrive. Protecting North Carolina’s environment and preserving our natural resources is a critical priority for families and our economy.”
Kathy Manning grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Harvard University and received her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. Over 30 years ago, Kathy and her husband moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where they built their careers, raised three children, and became deeply involved in the community. She served as a partner at a major law firm for 16 years, and then started her own small business. Manning led efforts to get people back on their feet after the Great Recession through job retraining, access to healthcare, mortgage assistance, and supporting local food banks. She has also worked on economic development issues in the Greensboro area including the building of a new performing arts center, the Greensboro Children’s Museum, and Triad Stage. Manning was also the first woman to lead one of the world’s largest charitable organizations. As a member of Congress, Kathy Manning will support North Carolina’s clean energy economy and fight for every North Carolinian’s right to a safe and healthy environment.
