WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of Congressman Matt Cartwright for re-election to the U.S. Congress (PA-17). Congressman Cartwright works tirelessly to protect our environment, combat climate change and expand our clean energy economy.
“Congressman Cartwright is a strong environmental champion who has been a vocal advocate of leaving our children and grandchildren a clean and healthy planet,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “He has been a strong proponent for tackling climate change head on, growing our clean energy economy and standing up to Big Polluters by working to close loopholes in fracking and coal royalties.”
“Congressman Cartwright has always stood up for Pennsylvania families, our economy, our environment and our way of life,” said Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Josh McNeil. “We need him to continue his efforts to stand up for public health and against the special interests that put it at risk.”
“I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Cartwright. “I remain committed to promoting policies that protect public health and our environment in Congress.”
As a Vice Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, a member of the Safe Climate Caucus and a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, Congressman Cartwright is a leader on climate change and other environmental issues. In fact, he introduced and spearheaded the passage of the Streamlining Energy Efficiency for Schools Act to help schools do energy efficiency retrofits, as well as offering bills to encourage green jobs in energy efficiency manufacturing. He has also helped introduce a number of bills to close various loopholes in the major environmental laws for hydraulic fracturing as well as to close federal coal royalty loopholes. In addition, he introduced the Safeguarding America’s Future and Environment (SAFE) Act to protect our natural resources from the increasingly harmful effects of climate change.
Cartwright has earned a stellar 96 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
Cartwright is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
