Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today the endorsement of Nikki Budzinski for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois’ 13th Congressional District.
“Nikki Budzinski is committed to fighting to protect clean air and water, protect public lands from oil drilling, and transition to a clean energy future and we could not be more excited to support her campaign for Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We know that Nikki Budzinski will bring her extensive climate and labor experience to create equitable high-paying union jobs in the clean energy sector, prioritize the health and well-being of communities over polluter profits, and pass strong climate and democracy legislation that will benefit all communities.”
“The stakes for addressing climate and environmental justice and clean energy jobs could not be higher and we need people in Congress who understand the risks and are ready to work relentlessly for our communities,” said Illinois Environmental Council General Fund Executive Director Jennifer Walling. “Nikki Budzinski has been a leader and valuable partner. She is ready to work and we would be proud to have her represent our communities in Congress.”
“I am honored to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Nikki Budzinski. “There is much work that needs to be done to ensure we are responsibly transitioning to a 21st century economy while making sure that working families are at the center of the conversation. I am eager to work with LCV as partners and get to work on these important issues.”
Nikki Budzinski was born in Peoria, Illinois and she attended the University of Illinois Champaign for college. Budzinski has spent much of her career in Democratic politics and the labor union movement., She has also led at the intersection of racial justice and equity and climate and union advocacy in her role as executive director at Climate Jobs Illinois. During the first six months of the Biden administration, she served as chief of staff at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where she helped implement the American Rescue Plan and get the Made in America Office up and running.
