Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Salud Carbajal for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California’s 24th Congressional District.
“Representative Salud Carbajal is a tireless advocate for permanently protecting California’s coast from the dangers of offshore drilling and protecting the health of all communities,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support him for re-election because we know he will continue to fight for bold and just action on the climate crisis and fight for environmental and climate justice, especially as California continues to battle fast-spreading wildfires.”
“California is experiencing some of the worst wildfires in our history, and it is critical that we have leaders like Representative Salud Carbajal who are fighting to protect us and take swift action on the climate crisis in Congress,” said Mike Young, California League of Conservation Voters Political & Organizing Director. “His environmental record speaks for itself, and we fully support his re-election.”
“Having raised my children on the Central Coast, I understand the importance of preserving our environment for generations to come. In Congress, I have taken on the Trump Administration to prevent dangerous offshore drilling on our coastline and worked to block oil and gas leasing on our public lands,” said Representative Salud Carbajal. “I will keep fighting for strong environmental policy to tackle climate change, because I know inaction is not an option. The wildfires raging across our state are proof that we can’t afford to wait. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of the environment, to protect and preserve the scenic views and beautiful open spaces that make the Central Coast so unique. I am honored to have earned the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and am excited to continue our important work together.”
Representative Salud Carbajal was elected to Congress in 2016. His first legislative action in Congress was to introduce The California Clean Coast Act which would permanently prohibit future oil and gas leasing off the coast of the entire state of California. He has also been a steadfast defender of his district’s public lands, including calling for the continued protection of the Carrizo Plain National Monument and introducing the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act that would permanently protect nearly 250,000 acres of public lands in the Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument. He recently introduced the bipartisan Wildfire and Public Safety Act. He is a member of the Climate and Environmental Justice Congressional Task Force, Congressional Oceans Caucus, Outdoor Recreation Caucus, and Congressional Shellfish Caucus. Rep. Carbajal has earned an excellent 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
