Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Senator King for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Maine.
“Senator King is an important leader for building a clean energy economy and addressing climate change in the U.S. Senate,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “From his work creating clean energy projects in Maine to protecting the state’s beautiful outdoor heritage, Senator King has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to protecting our environment for future generations. We are excited to support this conservation and clean energy champion once again as he runs for re-election.”
“Senator King knows that a healthy Maine environment is essential to our economy and way of life,” said Maine Conservation Voters Executive Director Maureen Drouin. “Maine people can count on Senator King to conserve our air, land, water, and wildlife, tackle the threat of climate change, and grow our clean energy economy. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator King to protect our natural resources and secure an economic future for our children.”
“We only have one planet to protect for future generations,” said Senator Angus King. “And in Maine, our environment is not only a beautiful reason to get outside, it also helps drive the economy – bolstering the tourism industry and giving life to our vast natural resources. During my first term in the Senate, I’ve worked on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to protect public lands and develop common sense, affordable clean energy policy. But we have so much more to do to make sure our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy a healthy, vibrant natural environment. I’ve been to the ice sheets in Greenland and seen the fastest melting glacier in the world, which further underscores the urgency of environmental conservation. It is incumbent on all of us to remember how fragile our world is, and to work together to keep it beautiful for all to enjoy.”
Senator Angus King is running for his second term representing Maine in the U.S. Senate. In both the public and private sector, Senator King has championed renewable energy and conservation initiatives, facilitating the largest increase of protected lands in Maine’s history. Before joining the Senate, he served as a principal with Independence Wind LLC and worked with a variety of other alternative energy companies to expand wind power capacity in Maine. He also supported the Maine Green Energy Project which helps young people learn about renewable energy. As a Senator, King has continued to support transitioning to a clean energy economy, action to address the climate crisis and protecting public lands. He has co-sponsored legislation to fully fund and reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund and to protect our air, water and public health from dangerous chemicals. Senator King is an active member of the Senate Climate Action Task Force and has earned a strong 90% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
