Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced today its endorsement of Senator Cory Booker for re-election to the U.S. Senate from New Jersey.
“Senator Cory Booker has been a leader in putting forward policies that address climate change in a just and equitable way — demonstrated by his landmark Environmental Justice Act,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “LCV Action Fund is proud to support Cory Booker for re-election because he is a tireless fighter on behalf of clean air, clean water and a healthy environment for all communities.”
“I am thrilled to receive the endorsement from my friends at the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, who have been true leaders in the fight to protect our environment,” said Senator Cory Booker. “The health of New Jersey’s environment, economy, and our communities tomorrow rely on bold and decisive action we take today, which is why I am grateful to have a trusted ally like LCVAF in my corner.”
“From city councilman, to Mayor of Newark, to U.S. Senator, Cory Booker’s leadership on climate has made him a crucial environmental ally,” said Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Ed Potosnak. “In the Senate, Booker has remained a dedicated advocate for New Jersey and we are proud to have him represent the Garden State.”
Senator Cory Booker served as Mayor of Newark from 2006 until 2013.While serving as mayor, he created the city’s first ever Office of Sustainability. In October 2013, Booker won a special election to the U.S. Senate, and was re-elected in 2014. During his time in the Senate, Booker has cemented his reputation as an environmental leader. He became a member of the Senate Climate Action Task Force, and has worked to elevate the climate crisis in various ways, including joining 30 of his Senate colleagues in an overnight session featuring floor speeches pushing for action on climate change. Booker has been a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as the Committee on Environment and Public Works. He has introduced legislation that would force corporate polluters to pay for the clean-up of contaminated Superfund sites, and voted in favor of clean energy tax credits and energy efficiency legislation. He has led the fight against offshore drilling in New Jersey, co-sponsoring legislation like the COAST (Clean Oceans and Safe Tourism) Act. Most notably he sponsored the landmark Environmental Justice Act and was one of the original cosponsors of the Green New Deal.
