LCV Action Fund Endorses Senator Dick Durbin for Re-Election

Oct 28, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Dick Durbin for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Illinois. Senator Durbin works tirelessly to promote our nation’s clean energy economy and protect the health of Illinois’ essential natural resources.

“We are delighted to endorse Senator Dick Durbin for re-election.  From his longtime leadership in increasing fuel efficiency for cars and trucks to his efforts to protect national treasures like the Great Lakes and Utah’s nationally significant red rock wilderness areas, Senator Durbin is a tremendous ally and friend and we look forward to working with him for many years to come,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.

“I’m thankful for the support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and honored to receive their endorsement. For years, the League of Conservation Voters have been a key partner in my fight to implement fair safeguards to protect the health and well-being of Illinoisans,” said Senator Durbin.

Serving in the second highest leadership position in the Senate — Majority Whip — Senator Durbin has greatly influenced the development of our clean energy economy, including promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources like wind and solar.  He has also been a leader in the fight against climate change and has been a tireless defender of the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority to protect public health by cutting carbon pollution under the Clean Air Act.

Over his three terms in the U.S. Senate, Senator Durbin has also proven himself a careful steward of Illinois’ important water resources.  He’s worked to ensure that Lake Michigan remains healthy, leading the effort to prevent BP from using the Great Lakes as dumping grounds, and he joined a multi-state attempt to prevent oil drilling in the Great Lakes.  Senator Durbin also introduced the reauthorization of a long-term fund for the restoration of the Mississippi River ecosystem, another waterway vital to Illinoisans’ way of life.

Senator Dick Durbin’s voting record has earned him a perfect 100% on LCV’s 2013 National Environmental Scorecard and a lifetime score of 85%. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
