LCV Action Fund Endorses Senator Kay Hagan for Re-Election

May 21, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Kay Hagan for re-election to the U.S. Senate from North Carolina. Senator Hagan works to protect public health, safeguard the air we breathe, and preserve open spaces.

“Senator Kay Hagan is committed to protecting public health and the environment for future generations, including supporting commonsense solutions to tackle climate disruption,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She also works hard to make America a leader in clean energy, because she knows that it will create jobs and grow the renewable energy economy while reducing our dependence on dirty fossil fuels. We were proud to endorse her in 2008, and we are proud to endorse her again today.”

“Senator Kay Hagan has been a strong advocate for the people of North Carolina, working to improve our air quality and protect the health of our community,” said Dan Crawford, Director of Governmental Relations of the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters. “Hagan understands that North Carolina’s open spaces and natural resources are an intricate part of our heritage, which is why she continuously fights for bipartisan policies that protect our land while growing our economy.”

“I am thankful to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and their supporters across North Carolina,” said Hagan. “As someone who loves to enjoy the great outdoors, I know firsthand that our state is home to some of our country’s most treasured landmarks and most precious natural resources. We must ensure these sites are left for future generations to enjoy while also maintaining them as key economic engines and job creators for our state, and I remain committed to putting North Carolina first.”

Senator Hagan has voted to defend the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ability to protect public health by reducing mercury and other air toxics air pollutants. She is a proponent of commonsense policies that preserve our outdoor heritage, including cosponsoring legislation that supports America’s premier conservation program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Going back to her days in the State Senate she has been a big proponent of renewable energy, and she continues to advocate for the expansion of our nation’s clean energy economy by supporting renewable energy tax credits.

Her voting record has earned Senator Hagan an impressive 84% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
