WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Mark Udall for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Colorado. Senator Udall works tirelessly to protect our environment, combat climate change, and move our nation towards a clean energy economy.
“Senator Mark Udall knows that preserving Colorado’s outdoor heritage is essential to boosting the state’s economy and quality of life,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “That means protecting the unique landscapes that attract tourists from all over the world as well as supporting the state’s growing clean energy businesses that create jobs and address climate change that is threatening Colorado’s environment and economy.”
“Senator Mark Udall understands that Coloradans love the outdoors. He works every day to protect our air, land and water which are an important part of our economy and heritage,” said Carrie Curtiss, Deputy Director of Conservation Colorado. “He is a true environmental leader who stands up for Coloradoans, and fights to bring jobs to the state by expanding our clean energy industry.”
“I’m proud to stand with the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund as we work to protect the clean air and wild lands that help drive Colorado’s economy and sustain our special way of life,” said Udall. “As a member of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and chairman of the National Parks Subcommittee, I work every day to promote smart conservation and energy policies to protect our natural heritage and fuel our clean energy economy. With our groundbreaking renewable energy standard and community-driven approach to land conservation, I truly believe Colorado is a model for the nation on how to grow our economy while protecting our public lands for the benefit of current and future generations.”
Senator Udall has been outspoken about our need to address climate change and the impact it is having on Colorado’s natural resources. He fights every day to preserve Colorado’s open spaces, including working hard to secure funds for land acquisition from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Senator Udall is committed to building a clean energy economy. He advocates for a nationwide Renewable Energy Standard (RES), and has introduced legislation that would require 25 percent of the electricity produced by utilities to come from clean energy. Senator Udall is a strong proponent of extending clean energy tax credits, and expanding research in renewable energy.
His voting record has earned Senator Udall an impressive 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
