WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Staci Appel for Congress (IA-3). Appel’s commitment to fighting climate change and desire to expand America’s clean energy economy will help protect the vitality of our environment.

“As a state Senator in Iowa, Staci Appel consistently supported our clean energy economy and will continue her leadership as a strong environmental ally in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Her deep concern over climate change and readiness to tackle this crisis will benefit Iowans and Americans alike.”

“I’m proud of my record in the Iowa Senate of working across the aisle, finding bi-partisan solutions to reverse the effects of climate change, while also giving Iowans more options for clean, affordable, renewable energy,” said Appel. “And I’m proud to count LCV members among my supporters and I’m looking forward to working with both parties in Congress to pursue an all of the above approach to leave the earth a better place than we found it.” 

Appel recognizes our moral obligation to combat climate change, and she will work to find bipartisan solutions for this problem. In particular she promotes market-based solutions to reduce carbon pollution, encourages investment in alternative energy sources like wind and solar, and supports providing tax credits to small businesses that use alternative energy.

In the Iowa state legislature, Staci Appel showed thoughtful commitment to Iowans and their clean energy economy.  In fact, she sponsored two bills promoting alternative energy: a bill that would create a community-based wind energy program and a bill that would ramp up renewable energy goals for electric utilities in Iowa.  In a state where wind energy now accounts for more than 27 percent of annual electricity generation Appel’s initiatives were forward-thinking and attuned to Iowan’s desires.
