WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, the Latino Victory Fund and EMILY’s List released a statement on the California Independent Petroleum Association PAC contributing $20,000 to a super PAC spending over $58,000 dollars against Nanette Barragán in CA-44.

“Nanette Barragán will stand up to the big oil companies who try to pollute and take advantage of our communities,” said Latino Victory Fund Director of Campaigns Martín Diego Garcia. “The contrast is clear. Barragán will be a tireless advocate for our planet and our health, which is the exact reason these corporate polluters are investing heavily in an attempt to tip the scales and defeat her. We can’t let them win, Californians need Nanette Barragán on their side.”

“Nanette Barragán took on the oil companies when they wanted to drill in Santa Monica Bay, and now they’re desperate to keep her out of Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are confident that the voters will see through this last-minute smear campaign against an environmental champion in support one of the top recipients of oil industry contributions in the California legislature. Barragán is committed to protecting the air, water and health of her constituents over the profits of corporate polluters and we are proud to stand with her in this race and push back against these outrageous attacks.”

“Unlike Isadore Hall, who has proven himself to be solidly in the pocket of anti-environment special interests like Big Oil, Nanette Barragán will work tirelessly in Congress to protect our environment,” said Jess O’Connell, executive director of EMILY’s List. “Women voters know that she is the only person in the race they can count on to defend our natural lands and waterways – rather than take money from corporations who exploit them for financial gain.”
