Washington D.C. – In response to the news that the Biden Administration will protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from new mining via an administrative 20 year withdrawal, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and Conservation Minnesota released the following statements:
“We applaud the Biden administration’s decision to keep this toxic industry away from our most visited Wilderness,” said Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “This action is overwhelmingly supported by Minnesotans and furthers the administration’s America the Beautiful conservation goals while laying groundwork for efforts to ensure this pristine wilderness is permanently protected.”
“This is great news for the Boundary Waters and for all Minnesotans who cherish it,” said Conservation Minnesota Executive Director Paul Austin. ” It only makes sense to protect our nation’s most visited wilderness similar to other national treasures like Yellowstone National Park and The Grand Canyon.”
