Washington, D.C. – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is announcing a new $230,000 TV ad campaign targeting Bruce Poliquin in Maine’s second Congressional district. The ad details his ties to Big Oil special interests in Washington, and his support for their interests, not the needs of his constituents.

The ad, “Friends,” will run on broadcast and cable in the Bangor media market. You can view the ad here, with script and backup here.

“Millionaire Bruce Poliquin sure has a lot of special interest friends in Washington. Like Big Oil,” reads the ad’s voiceover. “Poliquin took thousands in contributions from them. Then voted for over eighty million in special subsidies for Big Oil, sticking taxpayers with the bill. Millionaire Bruce Poliquin looks out for himself and Big Oil. Not us.”

“Poliquin hasn’t been looking out for Mainers in Congress – he’s been representing the Big Oil special interests that fund his campaigns,” said LCV National Campaigns Director Clay Schroers. “They have spent tens of thousands to keep him in office, and he’s returned the favor by protecting the billions they receive in taxpayer handouts.”

“We need representation in Washington that’s going to put our families first, not special interests – and that’s why Bruce Poliquin has to go,” said Maine Conservation Voters President, Roger Berle. “Fortunately, we have a choice in this election, and Emily Cain will help Maine lead the way in creating a clean energy economy, creating jobs and fighting climate change.”

New polling in the race for Maine’s second Congressional district shows Emily Cain leading incumbent Bruce Poliquin, while there is stiff competition for the district’s electoral vote in the presidential election. Poliquin has a horrible environmental record, with a nine percent on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
