Washington, D.C. — In response to NBC’s announcement that José Diaz-Balart, Savannah Guthrie, Lester Holt, Rachel Maddow and Chuck Todd will moderate the first 2020 Democratic debate in Miami on June 26 and 27, the League of Conservation Voters issued the following statement from Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“From devastating floods to more intense hurricanes to deadly wildfires, it is clear that the climate crisis is one of epic proportions, and it is imperative that climate change be front and center at the upcoming debate in Miami and in every presidential debate. Any discussion of the economy and job creation, public health and the environment, racial justice, or national security should include a discussion of climate change.”

“In poll after poll, addressing the climate crisis is one of the very top priorities for Democratic primary voters and caucus goers with overwhelming support for moving to 100% clean energy. We urge these esteemed moderators to ask the candidates about their plans to confront climate change beginning on day one of their presidency and continuing throughout it. The 2020 election is our last, best chance to address the climate crisis and voters deserve media coverage that takes it incredibly seriously.”
