LCV Congratulates Endorsed Ohio Candidates

Nov 21, 2024

Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Representatives Greg Landsman (OH-01), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), and Emilia Sykes (OH-13) on their wins in Ohio. We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.

“Ohioans deserve leaders who will protect the Great Lakes and help create good-paying, family sustaining jobs in Ohio,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “ These incredible champions in the House will continue helping to build a clean energy economy that lowers costs, creates jobs, and protects Ohio’s air and waters. We are excited to continue working with these climate champions to continue the progress that has already been made.”

In the House races, LCV Victory Fund invested $1.6 million to defeat Kevin Coughlin and reelect Emilia Sykes. Spending included a broadcast ad that called out Coughlin’s positions on Medicare and Social Security and our New American Jobs Fund field program in Akron that knocked on over 200,000 doors. Additionally, LCV Victory Fund invested $1.3 million to defeat Derek Merrin and reelect Marcy Kaptur, which included a broadcast ad focused on Merrin’s connection to the FirstEnergy bailout and our New American Jobs Fund field program in support of Kaptur that knocked on over 118,000 doors in Toledo.

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Landsman campaign as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 10,000 total LCV members.

GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in Ohio — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Ohio, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
