LCV Congratulates Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed and Other Endorsed Michigan Candidates

Nov 6, 2026

Washington, D.C. — The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed; Reps. Hillary Scholten (MI-03), Debbie Dingell (MI-06), Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08), and Rashida Tlaib (MI-12); and Representatives-elect Sean McCann (MI-04), Will Lawrence (MI-07), Christina Hines (MI-10), Jeremy Moss (MI-11), and Donavan McKinney (MI-13) on their wins in Michigan.

“Congratulations to this incredible suite of climate champions on their victories in Michigan!” said LCV President Pete Maysmith. “Michiganders pay some of the highest energy prices in the Midwest because of policies implemented under Trump and Congressional Republicans. This slate of electeds, including Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, the first Muslim and the first Egyptian-American to serve in the U.S. Senate, and Jeremy Moss, the first openly LGBTQ+ person to represent Michigan in Congress, will fight for common sense energy policies that help bring down costs for communities in Michigan and across the country, while also protecting clean water and addressing the climate crisis. We look forward to working with each of these candidates to advance a clean energy future that works for the people, not Trump and his polluter allies.”

LCV Victory Fund invested nearly $7 million to elect Abdul El-Sayed and defeat Dirty Dozen member Mike Rogers. The spending included digital ads focused on Rogers’ record of supporting cost hikes on utilities, groceries, and prescriptions (Sold and Owns).

LCVVF also invested over $1.8 million to elect Sean McCann and defeat Dirty Dozen member Bill Huizenga. MI-04 was a part of LCVVF’s Early House Program, which was its earliest ever paid investment in House races. The program included digital ads that called out Bill Huizenga for cutting clean energy  and raising energy bills through his votes for the Republican Tax Law (Skyrocket) and included testimonials from voters who were experiencing rising utility costs (Tom). In partnership with Somos PAC, LCV Victory Fund also ran Spanish language ads to reach Latino and Spanish-speaking voters (Súper Ricos). Polling before and after this investment showed that this work effectively moved the race 4 points towards McCann thanks to messaging focused on clean energy affordability.

Investments in Michigan also included over $1.1 million to elect Will Lawrence and defeat Tom Barrett (MI-07) and over $900,000 to elect Christina Hines and defeat Michael Bouchard (MI-10). In MI-10, digital ads highlighted Bouchard’s history of corporate interests funding his campaign and outlined Bouchard’s support of the Republican Tax Law, which has resulted in higher insurance premiums and utility costs for Michiganders. LCV Victory Fund also joined forces with the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC to run a large-scale field program to knock on over 2 million doors between September and Election Day in Michigan, supporting Abdul El-Sayed, Christina Hines (MI-10) and Will Lawrence (MI-07).

Opposition to data center development and concerns around the environmental impacts rapidly surged from 2025 to 2026, presenting a clear opportunity for LCV Victory Fund to connect with voters on an issue that linked climate impacts, rising utility costs, and corruption. In MI-04, we ran digital ads that called out Bill Huizenga for taking money from data center interests and giving data center developers an $80 billion tax break. In MI-07, our tongue-in-cheek ads called out Tom Barrett for taking money from data center developers and voting to give them an $80 billion tax break (Incredible Deal). Ad testing determined that the Incredible Deal ads increased Republican candidates’ unfavorability by 8 percentage points and moved vote choice towards Democratic candidates by 4.7 percentage points. We also ran positive ads featuring a long-time Republican Richard, who expressed his support for Will Lawrence because he will stand up to data centers as they drive up energy costs and fight to protect clean water (Sign Up).

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that drove over 32,500 volunteer shifts that turned out voters through 1,200,000 door knocks, phone calls, and letters.

Environmental donors contributed $1,932,000 to Michigan candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised $28.8 million for the 2026 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Michigan, reaffirming that addressing the climate crisis and affordable clean energy solutions are winning issues for voters.
