Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Angela Alsobrooks, Representative Steny Hoyer (MD-05), and Representatives-elect Johnny Olszewski (MD-02), Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), and April McClain Delaney (MD-06). We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.
“Marylanders stood up for climate action, our clean energy future and our democracy by electing Angela Alsobrooks to the Senate and so many incredible climate champions to the House,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “While Big Oil tried hard to buy this Senate seat, Maryland voters rejected their efforts because they understand that Angela Alsobrooks, who makes history as the first Black person to represent Maryland in the Senate, is the only candidate who will always stand up for our environment, women’s rights and voting rights. We are thrilled to work with her and other Maryland climate champions to continue to tackle the climate crisis and preserve our democracy.”
GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in Maryland — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Maryland, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
