Washington, D.C. — The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Josh Turek and Representatives-elect Christina Bohannan (IA-01), Lindsay James (IA-02), and Sarah Trone Garriott (IA-03) on their wins in Iowa.
“Iowa families deserve action when it comes to protecting their health and environment. Congratulations to these clean water and climate champions on their victories and commitment to building a healthier future for Iowa,” said LCV President Pete Maysmith. “Iowans made clear they want safe drinking water, safeguards against toxic pollution in their air and water, and elected leaders who will stand up to corporations polluting our water and raising our energy bills. We are thrilled to welcome these leaders to Congress and look forward to working with them to tackle these pressing issues.”
LCV Victory Fund (LCVVF) invested over $3.2 million to defeat Ashley Hinson and elect Josh Turek. The program included digital ads highlighting Ashley Hinson’s record of voting against clean water protections, while also taking money from corporations that are contaminating Iowa’s water (Looked Away). The digital ad strategy also included a powerful testimonial from Iowa mom, Tara, who expressed her concerns about the safety of the water her family is drinking and her frustrations with Ashley Hinson’s votes on protecting clean water (Worries).
Opposition to data center development and concerns around environmental impacts rapidly surged from 2025 to 2026, presenting a clear opportunity for LCV Victory Fund to connect with voters on an issue that linked climate impacts, rising utility costs, and corruption. Spending in IA-03 included a $250,000 investment in tongue-in-cheek ads that called out Nunn for taking money from data center developers and voting to give them an $80 billion in tax break (Incredible Deal). Ad testing determined that the ads increased unfavorability for Republicans by 8 percentage points and moved vote choice towards Democratic candidates by 4.7 percentage points.
Additionally, LCV Victory Fund invested $500,000 to support Christina Bohannan via digital ads that highlighted how her opponent made water quality worse for Iowans and endangered their health because of it. Finally, LCV Victory Fund invested over $250,000 in IA-02 to support Lindsay James with digital ads focused on the cost of healthcare.
LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Josh Turek, Christina Bohannan, and Sarah Trone Garriott campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that drove over 32,500 volunteer shifts that turned out voters through 1,200,000 door knocks, phone calls, and letters.
Environmental donors contributed $1,168,000 to Iowa candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised $28.8 million for the 2026 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Iowa, reaffirming that addressing the climate crisis and affordable clean energy solutions are winning issues for voters.
