Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator-elect Ruben Gallego and Representatives Greg Stanton (AZ-04) and Raul Grijalva (AZ-07) on their wins in Arizona. We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.
“Arizonans know how high the stakes for our climate are, and voted to elect climate champions, including Ruben Gallego, who makes history as the first Latino to represent Arizona in the U.S. Senate,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “These climate champions will continue to build on our progress on clean energy and more resilient infrastructure, and fight for Arizona communities, our clean air and water, and our future generations.”
LCV Victory Fund invested nearly $2.8 million to defeat Kari Lake and elect Ruben Gallego. Spending included early Spanish language TV ads (Lo Que Importa and Nuestra Historia) in partnership with Somos PAC that introduced Gallego to voters. LCVVF also opened three field offices, knocked over 454,375 doors, and had over 59,000 conversations with voters in Arizona about Gallego’s record as a climate champion and his commitment to building a clean energy economy.
LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Harris and Gallego campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 10,000 total LCV members.
GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in Arizona — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Arizona, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
