Washington, D.C.– The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Tim Kaine, Representatives Don Beyer (VA-08) and Gerry Connolly (VA-11), and Representatives-elect Eugene Vindman (VA-07), and Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) on their wins in Virginia. We look forward to working together in the 119th Congress and beyond to continue making progress on addressing the climate crisis and protecting our democracy.
“Virginia voters once again proved they support climate and clean energy leaders, reelecting Senator Kaine and so many great clean energy champions to the House,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “All across the Commonwealth, voters have chosen to elect candidates who will fight for a just and equitable clean energy future, to protect our air, water, lands and health, and we are thrilled to work with all of them to continue moving Virginia and our country forward.”
LCV Victory Fund invested $770,913 to elect Eugene Vindman and defeat Derrick Anderson, which included a broadcast ad that focused on Anderson’s connection to Project 2025 and his support of Project 2025 policies. LCV Victory Fund ran a joint GOTV mobilization program with Priorities USA Action focused on voter turnout.
LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Harris, Kaine, Cotter Smasal and Vindman campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 10,000 total LCV members.
GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates including in Virginia — raised a record $58.5 million for the 2024 cycle.
These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Virginia, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
