Washington D.C.- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) announced today that its grassroots member mobilization program, GreenRoots, is up and running in 14 key states to help elect environmental champions up and down the ballot. More than 40 organizers are on the ground, and LCV members have already completed hundreds of voter contact shifts. The program is currently active in Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. LCV members will knock on tens of thousands of doors, make hundreds of thousands of calls, and text voters to help elect pro environment candidates as part of the coordinated membership mobilization program.
A few highlights of the program so far:
IN VIRGINIA: “I started volunteering with LCV because I believe the environment impacts everyone, and working to elect Senator Kaine intertwines politics and people. It’s where you see change happen,” said LCV member Jackie S. from Richmond. “I wanted to be on the right side of that and really make a difference by making people aware of what’s going on.”
IN WASHINGTON: 90 year old volunteer Faye Bartlett is enthusiastic about “flipping the 8th” and keeping the seat out of the hands of Dino Rossi, Dr. Kim Schrier’s opponent. Faye has been an activist for decades, and has experience with online phone banking, which she will do from her home in Bellingham, Washington in order to support LCV Action Fund-endorsed candidates. Faye hopes to make this a family affair and is recruiting her daughter Martha, also an LCV member, to the cause.
IN MONTANA: “I cannot let politics take away our ability to enjoy the environment that surrounds us,” said LCV member Anita J. from Missoula. Anita has been making phone calls to re-elect Senator Jon Tester and elect Kathleen Williams because she knows they will stand up for Montana’s public lands.
