Grand Junction, CO – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is launching a nearly $150,000 ad campaign targeting incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton in his race for Colorado’s third Congressional district over his bill that threatened to open up Colorado’s public lands to out of state corporate interests, including his own campaign contributors.

“Scott Tipton has truly gone Washington; he had the gall to offer legislation that would open up Colorado’s public lands to out of state corporate interests – and even more unseemly – his own campaign contributors,” said Pete Maysmith, Executive Director of Conservation Colorado. “Our precious open spaces are critical to Colorado’s families, supporting our outdoor recreation economy, ranching, and jobs. Tipton’s gone Washington, and it is time for voters to send him home.”

You can view the ad, “Way of Life,” here, with script and backup here. This new ad campaign will run on broadcast and cable in the Grand Junction media market for over 1100 GRPs through Oct, 24.

The script for the ad reads:

Voiceover: It’s our way of life. But in Washington…

Newscaster: A blatant case of special interests buying influence in Washington. A draft bill by Scott Tipton was largely written word for word by Tipton’s biggest campaign contributor.

Voiceover: Tipton would offer up our public lands to out of state corporate interests. Threatening recreation, ranching, and Colorado jobs. Congressman Tipton’s what’s wrong with Washington.

Rep. Tipton has an abysmal 8% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. He has backed Big Polluters in Congress, and his positions are a threat to the public lands Coloradans depend on for outdoor recreation and jobs. He is being challenged by Gail Schwartz, who will protect our public lands and will fight to expand renewable energy.
