Protect the Right to Vote: Be a Poll Worker on Election Day Sign Up Today
Washington, D.C. – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and LCV Victory Fund launched ad campaigns totaling over $3 million targeting Sen. Richard Burr in the North Carolina Senate race. The ads question his financial ties to Big Polluters, and record supporting their interests in Congress, not North Carolina families.
You can view the LCV ad here, with script and backup here. The campaign is running statewide on broadcast, cable and targeted digital through Election Day.
“Burr is right at home in Washington, going to bat to protect the profits of the oil and gas special interests that have spent over $700,000 to keep him in office – while getting himself a tidy profit too,” said LCV National Campaigns Director Clay Schroers. “He’s voted their way, opposing clean energy and in support of the billions they receive in taxpayer handouts. Meanwhile, he’s got nothing to show for the people of North Carolina, except threatening well-paying jobs in the clean energy economy at home.”
“Senator Richard Burr. He’s been in Washington two decades,” reads the ads voiceover. “And Burr’s got plenty to show for it. Like the hundreds of thousands Burr’s taken from oil and energy companies. And the billions in tax breaks he’s voted for them. While voting against clean energy jobs for North Carolina. See, Burr had tens of thousands of dollars invested in oil and gas stocks. Big oil profits. So does Richard Burr. But in two decades, what’s he done for you?”
LCV named Sen. Richard Burr to its signature Dirty Dozen list in September. His terrible record on environmental protections, votes against clean energy and for the agenda of his Big Polluter allies have earned him a miserable 7 percent on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
