Energy Bill Voters Across the Country Elected Pro-Climate, Pro-Democracy Champions Up and Down the Ballot
Washington, D.C. — In response to the results of the 2026 mid-term election, where voters secured a pro-clean energy majority in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from President Pete Maysmith:
“Energy Bill Voters showed up in unprecedented numbers, even in deep Republican territory, to reject Trump’s dirty energy agenda. Tonight’s election results show that Trump’s energy agenda was not only an economic disaster for voters, but also a political disaster for Republicans. Voters have had enough of Trump and Congressional Republicans who sided with Big Oil, Big Polluters, monopoly utilities, and Big Tech time and time again to raise our costs. The voters have spoken, Trump must end his disastrous energy policy now. Stop the attacks on clean energy, stop the special favors for Big Oil, end the war.
LCV and our affiliated entities, along with the broader climate and clean energy movement, invested more than ever during the midterms and went on offense in Trump territory to reach voters. This election, Energy Bill Voters elected new leaders to take back the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. We look forward to working with these new majorities to advance affordable clean energy solutions across the country and cannot wait to work with these pro-environment, pro-democracy champions to protect the health of our communities, push back against Trump’s corrupt giveaways to corporate interests and Big Polluters, and fight for free and fair elections.”
LCV Victory Fund and affiliated entities ran the most ambitious midterm electoral program in our history, alongside the climate and clean energy movement’s biggest midterm investment ever. LCV Victory Fund’s investment surged to over $125 million into key House, Senate, and state races. The organization’s primary strategic priority this cycle is to return both the Senate and House to Democratic control. The climate group initially committed $50 million to its midterm efforts, but as voters’ concerns about energy prices and other climate-related issues continued to grow, the group’s leadership raised unprecedented resources. The investment marks the largest total spent by an outside issue group in support of Democratic candidates, and surpasses the $100 million the group invested in 2022.
LCV invested $1.5 million into a brand-new field program, Clean Energy Corps, among the first canvass efforts in the nation to work in collaboration with campaigns, and knocked on over 158,000 doors in three House districts. LCV also invested approximately $2 million into GreenRoots, LCV’s member mobilization program for members to volunteer in support of 30 LCV Action Fund-endorsed candidates in 13 battleground states. Combined, these efforts included 32,500 volunteer shifts that turned out voters through 1,200,000 door knocks, phone calls, and letters.
Environmental donors contributed the most GiveGreen has ever raised in a midterm cycle in support of pro-environment candidates. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $28.8 million for the 2026 midterm cycle.
