Washington, DC – Today, LCV Victory Fund is announcing that they are investing $1 million to defeat targeted House candidates for their opposition to fighting climate change. The program will initially target Jason Lewis in MN-2 and Cresent Hardy in NV-4. Additional House races are expected to be added to this program.
In Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional district, Jason Lewis is facing Angie Craig for the open seat. In Nevada’s 4th Congressional district, Ruben Kihuen is challenging Rep. Hardy. Craig and Kihuen are both environmental champions who will work hard on behalf of their constituents to protect our clean air and water, and promote a clean energy economy.
The League of Conservation Voters is also naming these first two House candidates to its signature 2016 Dirty Dozen list. Lewis and Hardy join Donald Trump, Pat Toomey, Joe Heck, Ron Johnson and Rob Portman on LCV’s 2016 Dirty Dozen List. Rep. Hardy has a rock-bottom 0 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
“Lewis and Hardy are picture-perfect members of a Dirty Dozen already topped by climate change denying Donald Trump,” said LCV Victory Fund National Campaigns Director Clay Schroers. “Lewis is the spitting image of a ‘mini-Trump’, and makes the same sorts of outlandish claims. Meanwhile, Hardy’s votes against environmental protections and climate change could not get any worse, with a rock-bottom 0 percent score. We’re ready to bring the fight against climate science denial and Big Polluters allies to the House, and are committed to defeating these two candidates.”
For 20 years, the Dirty Dozen has targeted candidates— regardless of party affiliation — who consistently side against the environment and are running in races in which LCV has a serious chance to affect the outcome. Last cycle, LCV defeated seven of the 12 Dirty Dozen candidates. In the last presidential year of 2012, LCV defeated 11 of 12.
