Philadelphia, PA – Today, LCV Victory Fund is announcing nearly $1 million additional spending to the previously announced $485,000 TV advertising campaign to defeat Sen. Pat Toomey and elect Katie McGinty in the Pennsylvania Senate race, bringing the total for this ad campaign to over $1.4 million. This ad buy builds on the $1.5 million joint LCV and EDF Action independent expenditure TV ad campaign that ran through July, as well as LCV’s separate $300,000 persuasion canvass campaign in Pittsburgh. LCV named Toomey to its signature Dirty Dozen list in June.

The ad buy will continue running on broadcast and cable in the Philadelphia market for 2000 GRPs through the 19th, and will add digital as well. The campaign will continue the run of the spot “Big,” which tells voters how Sen. Pat Toomey has voted numerous times to protect nearly $24 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil polluters, while receiving over $700,000 in campaign contributions from them. The ad was previously run in other Pennsylvania markets jointly by LCV and EDF Action in July. You can view “Big” here, and see the script and backup here.

“Toomey’s campaign continues to falter because voters are paying attention to his shoddy record of putting corporate interests first–he’s worked hard to protect the $24 billion worth of taxpayer handouts his Big Oil polluter allies receive, and they’ve returned the favor by spending millions to keep him in office,” said LCV Victory Fund Campaigns Director Clay Schroers. “Toomey has risked the health of Pennsylvania’s families by attacking critical clean air and water protections and has fought against clean renewable technologies because they are a threat to polluters’ profits. Katie McGinty, on the other hand, will advocate for the people of Pennsylvania, protecting the air we breathe and the water we drink, and working to build the clean energy economy of tomorrow.”

This new buy brings LCV, LCV Victory Fund, and EDF Action’s total general election investment in the Pennsylvania Senate race to $3.2 million. LCV Victory Fund is proud to support environmental champion Katie McGinty, whose spirited bid to unseat Sen. Pat Toomey whose record of support for corporate interests over the people of Pennsylvania has produced a tight race as we head into the fall.
