NEW AD: New $150k Ad Slams Miller-Meeks for Votes Raising Energy Costs on Iowans

Apr 30, 2026

Fairness for Iowa, in partnership with the League of Conservation Voters, today launched a new $150,000 ad campaign highlighting rising energy costs across Iowa, holding Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks accountable for votes that are driving prices higher for working families, and urging her to stop increasing our costs.

The ad focuses on the real impact of Miller-Meeks’ record, including her support for rolling back clean energy investments like wind, one of Iowa’s most affordable energy sources, by stripping the Clean Energy Production Tax Credit to fund more tax breaks for billionaires. In addition to supporting the backward Republican Tax Law, also known as the “Big Ugly Bill,” she voted for tariffs and Trump’s war, all of which are driving up costs and putting additional pressure on Iowa households.

Levi, a southern Iowa native and educator, spoke out about how rising energy costs are hitting working families across the state.

“I grew up in southern Iowa, and I know how hard people work just to get by. Just a couple months ago, we were hearing Miller-Meeks talk about how low gas prices are. Now they’re pushing close to $4 a gallon and families are the ones stuck dealing with that jump.” Levi said.

“Utility bills are going up too. For a lot of Iowans, there’s no extra money to absorb these kinds of increases. Families who were already just getting by are now falling behind and taking on debt just to cover basic needs. I teach students who are already worried about whether they can afford to stay here long-term. When costs keep rising like this and access to basic services gets worse, it changes how people see their future in Iowa. It shouldn’t be this hard to build a life here.”

Energy costs are rising at a time when many Iowa families are already stretched thin. From higher gas prices to increasing utility bills, households across the state are feeling the squeeze, with little relief in sight.

Instead of lowering costs, Miller-Meeks has continued to prioritize corporations and wealthy interests while leaving working families to absorb the impact.

We Thought

Just when we thought our costs couldn’t get higher

Congresswoman Miller-Meeks voted for the Iran war

That sent gas prices soaring

She even voted to cut clean energy production, raising utility costs

And Iowans can’t keep up
