Hoyle

Val Hoyle is a former state legislator, state house majority leader and state labor commissioner who has fought for bold climate legislation, a clean energy future, and family-sustaining union jobs.

Hoyle served as Oregon’s labor commissioner, a position voters statewide elected her to in 2018. She also represented Oregon’s 14th District in the state legislature, where she served on various committees and became House majority leader in 2013. As majority leader, Hoyle helped lead the effort to make Oregon’s Clean Fuels program permanent and helped pass the “Coal to Clean” bill to phase out coal power and double Oregon’s Renewable Portfolio Standard for electric utilities.

As a representative, Hoyle will fight for continued progress on clean energy and environmental justice, clean air and water protections for communities, and good-paying union jobs. She earned a 100% rating during her final state legislative session and an overall lifetime score of 86% on Oregon LCV’s Environmental Scorecard for the State Legislature.

Hoyle joins the U.S. House to fill the seat of retiring Representative Peter DeFazio, who earned a 92% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
