Washington, D.C.– Today, the League of Conservation Voters released a new digital local voices ads and field campaigns in the districts of Representatives Bill Huizenga (MI-04) and Scott Perry (PA-10) and digital ads in the district of Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) to hold them accountable for their votes to raise energy costs for hardworking families and calling on them to lower costs. After an initial pilot, this is the first time the League of Conservation Voters is working with real people to tell their own stories about how these elected officials’ actions are harming them and raising their costs. The campaign comes as President Trump and Congressional Republicans have raised utility bills and gas prices for Americans all across the country, gutting the clean energy industry and increasing profits for fossil fuel corporations.

Transcript of the Testimonial Below
The first ad features K a Michigan resident expressing her frustrations with elected officials for not adequately addressing the issue of rising utility costs and encourages people to call Congressman Bill Huizenga to ask him to lower their costs. Since President Trump took office and Congressional Republicans voted to pass the Republican Tax Law, households across the country saw a 13% increase in their energy costs in Trump’s first year.
The local voices ad tactic focuses on elevating unscripted videos featuring real people concerned about rising costs. Testing has proven that ads featuring local storytellers are especially credible and impactful. This ad is the first of a series that will be released featuring local stories from Michigan and Pennsylvania. To date, LCV’s field program has collected over 1,000 testimonials from constituents and had more than 25,000 conversations with community members about increased bills and which of their elected officials voted to raise their bills.
“Across the country people are feeling the pain of skyrocketing energy costs and people deserve to know who is responsible,” said Jennessa Agnew, Vice President of Field at the League of Conservation Voters. “We are using innovative tactics to meet people where they are and ensure they know who voted to gut clean energy, which is the fastest and cheapest to bring online while giving handouts to the fossil fuel industry and billionaires.”
This campaign is a part of the $4 million accountability campaign the League of Conservation Voters launched in April that elevates the impacts of the Republican Tax Law, also known as the “Big Ugly Bill.” The campaign is running across 11 Congressional districts to educate the public on how the Republican Tax Law has raised energy costs by attacking clean energy and urging Congressional Republicans to stop increasing our costs. Over the course of the campaign, districts will include, Representatives Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), David Valadao (CA-22), Jeff Crank (CO-05), Gabe Evans (CO-08), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07), Scott Perry (PA-10), John McGuire (VA-05), and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03).

My energy bill
My water bill
It feels like everything is going up
And it feels like these politicians just don’t care
We definitely feel abandoned by our politicians
Our politicians that we voted in, that we supported are not actually responding to the crisis
They’re ignoring us and we’re feeling it in our pockets everyday
So yes, we’re all frustrated
Because we deserve to not have to spend a whole paycheck on just basic needs.
