LCV Launches $4 Million Accountability Campaign

Apr 14, 2026

Washington, D.C.— Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched a $4 million campaign elevating the impacts of the Republican Tax Law, also known as the “Big Ugly Bill.” The campaign will run across 11 Congressional districts to educate the public on how the Republican Tax Law has raised energy costs by attacking clean energy and urging Congressional Republicans to stop increasing our costs. Over the course of the campaign, districts will include, Representatives Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), David Valadao (CA-22), Jeff Crank (CO-05), Gabe Evans (CO-08), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07), Mike Carey (OH-15), Scott Perry (PA-10), John McGuire (VA-05), and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03).

This campaign comes as President Trump has created a global energy crisis and Congressional Republicans have continued to vote to slash clean energy resources in order to prioritize the fossil fuel industry. By taking clean energy–which is faster to deploy and more affordable–off the table, hardworking families across the country are facing less reliable energy resources at a higher cost. Since President Trump took office and Congressional Republicans voted to pass the Republican Tax Law, households across the country saw a 13% increase in their energy costs in Trump’s first year.

The campaign is launching with a brand new joint broadcast TV ad with Opportunity Wisconsin in WI-03 calling out Congressman Derrick Van Orden for voting in favor of the Republican Tax Law, slashing clean energy investments and raising energy costs. Campaign tactics across all areas include community events, story collection, paid media including TV, digital and mail, uplifting local experiences with rising energy costs, mobilizing constituents to take action, field operations, and online content creation. Last month, the League of Conservation Voters released a joint ad in NJ-07 with Unrig Our Economy about rising energy bills as a result of the Republican Tax Law, which Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. voted for.

“Congressional Republicans broke their promise to lower energy costs,” said Sara Chieffo, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at the League of Conservation Voters. “Instead of increasing access to affordable, clean energy, Congressional Republicans voted to kneecap the resources that can lower energy costs in order to prioritize the fossil fuel industry. Their constituents deserve to know who is responsible for their skyrocketing energy costs.”

By supporting this billionaire tax scam, Congressional Republicans voted to increase utility bills by as much as $400 a year, eliminate hundreds of thousands of family-sustaining clean energy jobs that are disproportionately available to their own constituents, poison our air and water, and open up millions of acres of public lands to drilling, logging, and mining. The Republican Tax Law includes giveaways to billionaire fossil fuel executives at the expense of hardworking families

This campaign builds upon the $4 million campaign the League of Conservation Voters launched during August recess following the passage of the Republican Tax Law, to educate people about the harms of the bill and the $1.3 million digital and cable TV ad program the League of Conservation Voters launched in partnership with House Majority Forward and Climate Power across 11 Congressional Districts last July, focusing on Members of Congress who voted for the Republican Tax Law.
