LCV Statement on SCOTUS Oral Arguments in Suncor v. Boulder

Oct 5, 2026

Washington, D.C. — In response to today’s oral arguments at the Supreme Court in Suncor v. Boulder, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Senior Director of Judiciary and Democracy Doug Lindner:

“Big Polluters have padded their profits by fueling the climate crisis and lying to the public for decades while our families get sicker and our communities bear the costs of more and worse climate disasters. Suncor v. Boulder is about whether they’ll get away with it. Communities across the country are working to hold them accountable in court, but the Big Polluters are asking their friends on the Supreme Court — as well as their friends in Congress and the Trump administration — to protect them from accountability.

Like Trump, the MAGA justices on the Supreme Court have long helped fossil fuel CEOs grow richer as people pay the price for pollution, wildfires, and drought-induced water shortages. Even with Samuel Alito recused, five other MAGA justices have similar records of choosing polluters over the people and the law. Americans deserve judges and justices we can trust to deliver equal justice under law. We need Congress to act on Supreme Court structural and ethical reform, and until then, we need our Senators to block pro-polluter nominees for the federal bench.”
