LCV Statement on House Congressional Review Act Vote to Block Clean Water Rule

Jan 13, 2016

Washington, D.C. – In anticipation of the House passing S.J. Res. 22, the Congressional Review Act “Resolution of Disapproval” permanently blocking the EPA and Army Corps’ Clean Water Rule, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“It seems to be “Dirty Water Week’ in the House as Republican leadership has once again done the bidding of Big Polluters by moving forward with another radical assault on protections for the drinking water of one in three Americans. This time they’ve resorted to an extreme tactic to permanently block pollution protections for the clean water our children and grandchildren drink, swim, and play in. By disregarding the massive public support for the Clean Water Rule, this vote puts profits ahead of the clean water our families, communities, and businesses depend on. Fortunately, President Obama has made clear he would veto this egregious attack and remains committed to protecting our water, air, lands, wildlife and climate for generations to come.”
