GiveGreen hits $2 Million for Cycle in Support of Environmental Champions

Feb 4, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, NRDC Action Fund PAC and NextGen Climate have together already raised or contributed more than $2 million for federal and state candidates through GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States in the 2015-2016 election cycle.

LCV Action Fund’s federal GiveGreen program, which is supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC, helps to elect pro-environmental candidates at the federal level. GiveGreen in the States is a new project of NextGen Climate and LCV Action Fund to help support pro-environmental candidates in the states. Last year, with the help of Virginia League of Conservation Voters (VLCV) PAC, GiveGreen in the States raised or contributed money for Virginia candidates, and will be continuing to expand these efforts as the state program grows.

“This early, impressive influx of support is a sign of how much is at stake for the environment in the 2016 elections. We expect interest in donating through GiveGreen will continue to build through this cycle,” said Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund.

“We’re just getting started and it’s great to see this much support for pro-conservation candidates this early in the election cycle. All across the country, federal, state and local officials are leading efforts to protect our environment and combat climate change. Through GiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States, we are thrilled to support them and elect more champions at all levels of government,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Action Fund.

During the 2014 election cycle, the GiveGreen program raised or contributed over $5.8 million for environmental candidates. In the 2012 cycle, GiveGreen raised or contributed over $2 million to environmental champions.

The GiveGreen total includes all contributions raised or contributed in 2015-2016 for federal candidates, as well as contributions raised or contributed through GiveGreen in the States.
