LCV Action Fund Endorses Congresswoman Suzan DelBene for Re-Election

May 18, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Suzan DelBene for re-election to Congress (WA-1). DelBene is a tried-and-true environmental leader who consistently advocates for clean energy initiatives and defends our nation’s public lands.

“Congresswoman DelBene is a true champion for the environment who advocates forcefully for more clean energy and more parks for all of us to enjoy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “Further, Congresswoman DelBene gets things done for her district.  She’s introduced and passed several pieces of environmental legislation that expand protections for lands and water in the stunningly beautiful part of Washington state that she represents. It’s no doubt that our future will be healthier and cleaner thanks to Congresswoman DelBene.”

“Congresswoman DelBene has proved instrumental in protecting Washington’s stunning natural landscapes, which are essential to our economy and our way of life. She is a strong advocate for the Land and Water Conservation Fund,” said Washington Conservation Voters President Shannon Murphy. “In a state that’s quickly forging a path towards coal-free energy, Congresswoman DelBene is irreplaceable–she’s dedicated to help successfully transition Washington away from fossil fuels towards clean, renewable sources. We need her ever-present diligence in the halls of Congress.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” DelBene said. “Washington’s First District is home to some of the country’s most beautiful waterways, forests and mountains – like the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Illabot Creek and North Cascades National Park. We must preserve and protect these natural resources so future generations can enjoy them as we have. I look forward to continuing to work towards building a new green economy and finding innovative solutions for addressing climate change for our health and the health of future generations.”

A graduate of the University of Washington’s business school, DelBene quickly found success in the technology industry, helping found drugstore.com, serving as CEO and president of Nimble Technology, and as vice president of Microsoft’s mobile communications. Prior to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, DelBene was appointed director of the Washington State Department of Revenue by Governor Christine Gregoire.  In Congress, DelBene has been a strong leader on climate change and the environment, and is a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC).

DelBene has earned a 93 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.

DelBene is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCVAF), the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental laws and policies, and defeat those who stand in the way of progress. Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 69 U.S. Senators and 306 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections. Some of our recent successes include:

•         In the 2013-2014 election cycle, LCVAF endorsed over 70 candidates and raised and donated almost $6 million dollars via GiveGreen.

•         In 2014, LCVAF endorsed U.S. Representative Gary Peters for U.S. Senate from Michigan and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen for re-election in New Hampshire. In their successful campaigns, both spoke out forcefully and passionately about our need to combat climate change and expand the clean energy economy, proving that these are winning issues.

•         In the 2012 and 2014 election cycles, LCVAF provided early endorsements and support to help climate champions like Representatives Julia Brownley (CA-26), Matt Cartwright (PA-17), Ruben Gallego (AZ-7) and Jared Huffman (CA-2) win their first primary and general elections to the U.S. House of Representatives.
