LCV Action Fund Endorses Gail Schwartz for Congress

Jun 6, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Gail Schwartz for Congress (CO-3). Schwartz is a proven leader who has always prioritized protecting the environment, expanding clean energy and conserving public lands.

“Gail Schwartz was an outstanding champion in the Colorado State Senate, and we need her strong voice in Congress fighting for our clean energy future and public lands,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “She was the driving force behind so many important initiatives in Colorado, and she will bring this same commitment to Washington.”

“Senator Schwartz is a longtime advocate for Colorado’s treasured national parks and public lands, and she will make sure that they are not sold off to private interests,” said Conservation Colorado’s Executive Director Pete Maysmith. “She also has consistently stood up for Colorado’s families by working tirelessly to promote wind and solar jobs and protecting water in our communities. Gail Schwartz is an environmental champion who will protect our way of life for generations to come.”

“I’m extremely grateful for the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund endorsement of my race to represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District,” said Schwartz. “My record as State Senator in Western and Southern Colorado demonstrates my commitment to protecting Colorado’s remarkable public lands and wildlife; ensuring we keep our state’s waters flowing and free from pollution; and promoting clean and renewable energy resources to limit the impact of the changing climate while creating jobs. I thank the League for its advocacy on behalf of sound environmental laws and policies, which benefit our magnificent state and protect precious natural resources across the nation.”

Former State Senator Gail Schwartz has dedicated her career to public service. After becoming involved in local education issues in Aspen, Schwartz was appointed to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and then elected to represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District on the University of Colorado’s Board of Regents. In 2000, Schwartz won a seat in the Colorado State Senate, eventually rising to Senate Majority Caucus Whip in 2010. As the Chair of the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee and the Water Resources Review Committee, Schwartz was a staunch proponent of expanding clean energy, co-sponsoring a bill to increase Colorado’s renewable energy standards and supporting the Clean Air Clean Jobs Act. Schwartz has been a longtime champion for safeguarding Colorado’s magnificent public lands and is making this a top priority on the campaign trail.

Schwartz has earned an impressive 97 percent lifetime score on Conservation Colorado’s Legislative Scorecard. For more information, visit https://conservationco.org/scorecard2015/.
