LCV Action Fund Endorses Jason Kander For U.S. Senate

May 17, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Jason Kander for U.S. Senate from Missouri. Kander is a strong advocate for Missouri’s environment and, as a veteran, will be a leader in the U.S. Senate on making the connections between climate change and our national security.

“As a father himself, Jason Kander understands we have a moral obligation to our children and grandchildren to address climate change,” said LCV Deputy Legislative Director Alex Taurel.  “He supports commonsense solutions that will preserve our environment while growing our clean energy economy to create good paying jobs in Missouri.”

“Missouri is a state of incredible natural beauty, and it is our obligation to ensure it remains that way for generations to come. Climate change is a very real consequence of human activity, and with smart environmental policies and investment in clean energy technologies, we can address climate change, grow our economy and ensure our national security,” said Kander. “In the Senate, I will work across the aisle on these issues and make sure that we pass legislation that protects Missouri families and preserves our land.”

Jason Kander is a distinguished public servant. During law school, Kander enlisted in the Army National Guard and earned his commission through Georgetown University’s ROTC battalion. He volunteered for a tour of duty in Afghanistan, serving as military intelligence officer. In 2008, he ran for the Missouri House of Representatives District 44, where he was a strong environmental ally, opposing rollbacks to the Missouri Clean Energy Act, the renewable electricity standard that passed in a statewide vote. In 2012, Kander was elected Missouri Secretary of State, becoming the youngest statewide elected official in the country.

Kander is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.

About LCV Action Fund

The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCVAF), the connected federal political action committee (PAC) of the League of Conservation Voters, works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental laws and policies, and defeat those who stand in the way of progress. Since the 1994 election cycle, LCVAF has helped elect and re-elect 69 U.S. Senators and 306 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Over the last several years, our efforts have also helped elevate climate change and clean energy as critical issues in key elections. Some of our recent successes include:

In the 2013-2014 election cycle, LCVAF endorsed over 70 candidates and raised and donated almost $6 million dollars via GiveGreen.

In 2014, LCVAF endorsed U.S. Representative Gary Peters for U.S. Senate from Michigan and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen for re-election in New Hampshire. In their successful campaigns, both spoke out forcefully and passionately about our need to combat climate change and expand the clean energy economy, proving that these are winning issues.

In the 2012 and 2014 election cycles, LCVAF provided early endorsements and support to help climate champions like Representatives Julia Brownley (CA-26), Matt Cartwright (PA-17), Ruben Gallego (AZ-7) and Jared Huffman (CA-2) win their first primary and general elections to the U.S. House of Representatives.
