LCV Action Fund Endorses Joe Neguse for Congress

Dec 19, 2017

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Joe Neguse for Congress (CO-02).

“Joe Neguse will never stop fighting to protect our public lands and our right to clean air and water,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He is part of the new generation of leaders who have embraced our clean energy economy and insist that our political process transform into a more equitable and fair system-one that serves all people in this country. We need voices like Joe Neguse’s now more than ever and we are excited to endorse him in this historic campaign.”

“Joe Neguse has long been a powerful ally of the environmental movement here in Colorado, by helping thousands of young people register to vote and promoting renewable energy in our state,” said Carrie Curtiss, Acting Executive Director of Conservation Colorado. “In Congress, we know he will make it a priority to act on climate change and protect our public lands, and stand up for immigrant and frontline communities.”

“When I announced my campaign, I said that tackling climate change was one of the central reasons for running, which is why LCV Action Fund’s endorsement means so much to me,” said Neguse. “Our climate is at grave risk, and a new generation of leaders must tackle this problem head on. That means taking bold action on renewable and clean energy and protecting the incredible public lands in the 2nd Congressional District and beyond.”

Joe Neguse most recently served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Colorado’s consumer protection agency. Neguse has demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing climate change and protecting public lands. New Era Colorado, the organization Neguse co-founded, works to engage young people in the fight against climate change and to promote clean energy. Some of the campaigns that New Era Colorado has run include energy efficiency standards for rental units and a municipal clean energy utility in the city of Boulder. New Era Colorado also registered over 150,000 young people in Colorado and successfully championed online voter registration. Neguse is the son of refugees from Eritrea and is a lifelong Coloradoan. In 2008 he was elected to serve a six year term as a member of the University of Colorado’s Board of Regents, the second African American to serve on the board. If elected, Neguse will be the first African American ever elected to represent Colorado in Congress.

Neguse is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office. Last cycle, LCV Action Fund raised more contributions to candidates through GiveGreen than ever before—over $8.3 million for state and federal candidates.
